The chairperson of the Waitemata District Health Board has resigned, citing inadequate funding to deliver expected services.

Kay McKelvie says it is frustrating trying provide the level of service the public expects, when there is limited funding.

Ms McKelvie told Checkpoint on Wednesday the board has had its share of funding over the past two financial years and has worked hard to reduce deficits.

However, she says it will be difficult to continue providing those services, with the funding expected in the next financial year.

Ms McKelvie says the board is now facing a shortfall of between $35 million to $40 million.
