Police have named the cameraman who died from critical injuries received during a routine skydive near Aoraki, Mount Cook last week.

He was 43 year old Carlos Gabriel Obaid Haddad, of Pukaki.

Skydive Mount Cook confirmed Haddad died on Sunday, six days after he was taken to Christchurch Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, the company said it was "devastated by the loss of our treasured colleague".

Police were making inquiries on behalf of the Coroner and said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had been notified.

Early inquiries indicated Skydive Mount Cook's equipment was not at fault, the company said yesterday.

"We remain confident in our robust systems, and initial investigations show equipment failure was not a factor, however whilst this investigation is still open, we will continue to work with local authorities and will be unable to make any further comments at this time," the company said.
