15:02 pm on 11 June 2019

The American Civil Liberties Union has condemned the two-week detention of a nine-year-old Cook Islands girl in California.

As Ngatupuna Raela, known as Puna, finally travels back home to Aitutaki, the girl's legal guardian in the United States says he's furious at the US and Cook Islands authorities.

Puna was travelling with family friend Marc Pearce on a holiday when they were separated and detained at Los Angeles on May the 25th.

Alex Perrottet reports.
