Corey Webster's return to the New Zealand Breakers appears to have come at the right time for the club as the point guard netted a career-high 35 points to help the National Basketball League defending champions to a 90-67 win over the Cairns Taipans in Auckland last night.

The Breakers have won their last two games since Webster returned from his NBA stint with the New Orleans Pelicans last week.

Despite the visitors shooting out to a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter, the Breakers were up by five points at halftime before turning on the points in the second half to run away with a 23-point win.

Webster leads the ANBL shooting statistics with an average of 28.5 points a game.

Tai Wesley also recorded career high figures of his own, making 26 points along with eight rebounds.

It capped off a fanastic night for Welsey who also celebrated becoming a father.

"I feel great. Any time we can get a win in front of our home crowd is a good night. I was having fun out there and when basketball's fun, what else can go wrong," Wesley said.

"Before the game my wife was 2cm dilated so I had my phone in the sock so I could come to the bench to see if she's called. We'll welcome our first baby, a boy, into the world now tonight or tomorrow morning. We are excited about that."

The Breakers are now in fifth place on the National Basketball League ladder, with three wins and three losses so far this season.
