A person has died after a motorcycle rider allegedly fled from police and crashed in Gisborne.
Police said that they responded to an accident on State Highway 35 in Gisborne about 4pm when a motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
Police said they had earlier signalled for the motorcycle driver to stop but they fled and were later found dead at the scene of the accident.
Police said an investigation is under way.
