Sport: Hong Kong cricketers take control against PNG

Babar Hayat smashed an unbeaten century to put Hong Kong in control at the midway point of their ICC Intercontinental Cup cricket match against Papua New Guinea in Sharjah.

Beginning day two on 50 for 2, Hong Kong lost Anshurman Rath for 22 before captain Hayat and Nizakat Khan (35) put on 82 runs for the fourth wicket in over 30 overs.

Hayat was unbeaten on 140 at stumps, with Ehsan Nawaz was bowled off the last ball of the day by Mahuru Dai to leave Hong Kong 269 for 8, with a first innings lead of 32 runs.

Chad Soper was the pick of the Barramundis bowlers with 3 for 26 off 24 overs, while Damien Ravu (2 for 40), Lega Siaka (1 for 20) and Dai (1 for 66) also picked up wickets on day two.
