A major scrub fire has broken out in Rangitikei district near Bulls.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson says crews received multiple calls about the blaze around 3.30pm this afternoon.
By about 9pm Fire and Emergency said that the blaze had increased in size to 80 hectares.
Fire and Emergency said the fire was creating considerable smoke, with reports coming from Manawatū Gorge, Woodville and as far away as central Hawke's Bay.
The fire has two fronts - one near Brandon Hall Rd, the other off Pukepapa Rd.
There are currently eight helicopters, 11 fire trucks, three water tankers and additional support crews battling the blaze.
An industrial building nearby was evacuated as a precaution.
Fire and Emergency is asking people to avoid the area.
