The Samoa government has finally ratified the United Nations 42 year old International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which was endorsed and approved by the UN in December 1966.

In a statement, the government says the decision has come after considering that each part of the covenant has been included in the law books of the country.

It is the third international convention for human rights Samoa has ratified and become a member of since it gained independence in January 1962.
