The Ministry for Primary Industries is considering a number of biosecurity improvements after an independent review of controls at the border.

The review was commissioned after a fruit fly was detected in Auckland earlier this year.
It has found border protection for mail and passengers is world class and protects the country well.
However it also says ongoing improvements are essential and MPI needs to adopt new technology to keep up with rapid changes in travel and trade.
Among its recommendations are new bag scanners at Auckland Airport, and ways to fast-track low risk passengers.
MPI Director-General Ray Smith said the review's recommendations reinforce much that is already on the Ministry's radar and it's looking to fit them into its work programme.
