A police conduct investigation is underway following a pursuit on Auckland's northwestern motorway, after which a man suffered serious injuries.
Police received reports about 9pm on Thursday of a man who had fired several shots at a house in the west Auckland suburb of Ranui.
They say officers tracked the man down but he reversed twice into a patrol car, then drove off and a pursuit started on State Highway 16.
The police abandoned the chase and a helicopter followed the car but it crashed into the back of a truck.
The alleged shooter did not follow officers' instructions and the police used a dog to catch him.
He suffered a broken leg and a dislocated hip. No-one else was injured.
