Animal rights campaigners calling for a ban on rodeos held a protest at the Warkworth Rodeo grounds today, despite the event being postponed.
The rodeo has been moved to February following heavy rain today.
But Direct Animal Act spokesperson Kathleen Lafferty said about 45 people were there making a stand against animal cruelty.
Investigations have found that animal suffering and stress is the norm at rodeos, she said.
The New Zealand Rodeo Cowboys Association wasn't immediately available for comment.
