Elections postponed in Lebanon

10:50 am on 2 June 2013

Parliament in Lebanon has voted to postpone elections due to be held in June because of security concerns over the conflict in Syria.

The BBC reports MPs voted on Friday to extend their mandate until November 2014. It was the first time they had done so since the civil war ended in 1990.

The move followed the failure of MPs to agree on a new electoral law.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam has failed to form a government after two months of talks.
