The council said the Eftpos machine at the landfill was not working, but the machine at Trash Palace was.

The power company is working to get power back up, but it's expected to take two to three hours.

Two houses in the Porirua suburb, Plimmerton, were also hit by heavy rain overnight, one by debris, and another by a hole opening up on their driveway.

It comes just a week after a deluge of wet weather caused fifteen homes in the suburb to be rendered uninhabitable.

Two large pumps were set up to keep the beach culvert clear this morning.

Meanwhile, crews from Wellington Water, the Council and Downer are out across the rest of the city, clearing culverts and responding to callouts.

The Council said they had callouts in Plimmerton, Titahi Baym Elsdon, Cannons Creek, and Whitby.

Four wasterwater overflows in Titahi Bay are being attended to.

Meanwhile, Paekakariki Hill Road is closed for the rest of the day after several slips. Grays Road is also closed but the City Council expects it to be re-opened this afternoon.

Paremata School remains closed after a substation overflowed, meaning their toilets were unusable.
