The Labour Party has labelled the Government's goal of closing the wage gap with Australia a failure, after new figures show it has grown to $NZ175 a week per worker.
Labour's economic development spokesperson David Parker says the figures from the parliamentary library are based on purchase price parity - the same measure used by the Government earlier this year.
Mr Parker told Parliament on Wednesday the wage gap between Australia and New Zealand has grown by $37 per week since the National Party took office in 2008.
Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee told Parliament the Government refutes the figures.
