A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in the west Auckland suburb of New Lynn on Monday afternoon.
Police said they were called to an altercation between two men on Great North Road, near the intersection of Memorial Ave, about 1.30pm.
During the incident, the 44-year-old woman was seriously stabbed in her upper body, police said.
She was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.
A corkscrew was found at the scene, police said.
The arrested man has been charged with assault. Police said more serious charges were likely.
Police said they wanted to reassure the public there was no ongoing threat.
