The Papua New Guinea Finance Minister, James Marape, has warned provincial and district finance managers about seeking kickbacks in the course of their work.
Speaking at a conference of provincial and district managers in Buin in South Bougainville, Mr Marape said the Finance Department is reforming its systems and processes and the time for corruption and fraudulent practices is over.
Mr Marape said with the implementation of the Public Finance Management Act 2016 and the roll out of the Integrated Finance Management System the government expected the total commitment of its finance managers to ensure the success of these reforms.
The Post Courier reported him saying if the reforms are working there should be results on the ground in the provinces and districts.
Mr Marape said if the public officials cannot show evidence the funds have produced actual results on the ground then something is wrong.
