Takaka Hill road re-opens after cream spill

18:24 pm on 21 March 2015

A cream spill closed the Takaka Hill road after an accident this morning.

Police said a truck and trailer unit carrying cream north to Takaka crashed about 1 kilometre up the hill on the Motueka side.

They said 19,000 litres of cream leaked from the truck and left a dangerous, slippery fat residue on the road.

Police said grit has been spread over the affected area, and the road has now re-opened.

The Tasman District Council said there was no river within 1 kilometre of the crash so there is no immediate environmental danger.
