Papua New Guinea's national court has refused to grant a stay on police moves to arrest former prime minister Peter O'Neill.

Mr O'Neill's lawyer Tiffany Nonggorr had submitted an application for a temporary injunction against police arresting the MP.

A warrant for Mr O'Neill's arrest relating to corruption allegations was withdrawn last year.

However, Police Minister Bryan Kramer indicated late last year that a new arrest warrant would be sought.

But FM100 reports that Ns Nonggorr filed for the injunction on any arrest while a defamation suit is pending against Mr Kramer.

The minister has denied the allegation by Mr O'Neill's legal team that he is interfering in the work of police by directing them to arrest the former prime minister.
