A man has died in a forestry area near Gisborne this afternoon, police say.

Police went to the remote area in the Tauwhareparae area north of the city after a call about 2.30pm, they said.
The man died at the scene.
They said they were working with Work Safe to find out what caused his death.
It is the second forestry death in a week, after 20-year-old Luke Thomas Dixon died last Thursday when a wheeled log hauler he was operating came off the road.
