Fiji puts a focus on growing more ginger

09:39 am on 10 April 2015

The Fiji government says ginger has been designated one of the country's priority commodities because of its potential to provide income security.

It says the Agriculture Ministry is helping revitalise the ginger industry in a bid to lift production.

The industry is currently worth just under $US6 million but this is likely to increase in future.

The agriculture minister Inia Seruiratu has told parliament the government will budget significantly more this year to help ginger become a major export commodity.
