An Auckland t-shirt company is using designs based on the tattoos and faith of the helicopter pilot who died fighting the Port Hills fires in February to raise money for his family.
Former SAS member and pilot Steve Askin died after his helicopter crashed on the Port Hills while fighting the blaze.
He was the only fatality in the fire that destroyed more than 2000 hectares of foresty, gutted 11 homes, and forced thousands of Port Hills residents to evacuate.
IIllicit clothing owner Steve Hodge said they had made three t-shirt designs, which were based on Mr Askin's tattoos and faith.
Mr Hodge said he had been working with Mr Askin's family, as well as the SAS, for a month on the designs, which were released this week.
"It's something for his buddies to hold on to they take pride in wearing these garments we make for their boys," said Mr Hodge.
Mr Hodge said all profits would go to Mr Askin's family.
Illicit clothing also produced tee-shirts for Luke Tamatea, who died while fighting in Afghanistan five years ago.
