Police have launched a homicide investigation in the West Auckland suburb of New Lynn after a person was found dead this morning.
Emergency services were called around 10am today to an address on Great North Road after reports a firearm had been discharged.
A police spokesperson says upon arrival, a person was found injured in the driveway of the address.
Frontline police staff have tried to provide first aid to this person, however they died at the scene.
Police have also cleared neighbouring addresses.
There are at least 10 police vehicles and a large number of officers at the scene on Great North Road at the intersection with Nikau Street.
Traffic is being diverted and police are speaking to members of the public on the footpath.
The address where the incident took place appears to be a motel.
In a police statement, Detective Inspector Kevin McNaughton said the homicide investigation is continuing this afternoon.
McNaughton said there is an increased Police presence in the New Lynn and Green Bay areas as a result of the incident.
"Police cordoned a section of Cliff View Road in Green Bay and were conducting enquiries at addresses within that area, with support from members of the Armed Offenders Squad.
"No arrests were made at this location, however there will still be a Police presence in the area as our enquiries continue," Detective McNaughton said.
Police will investigate CCTV footage from the surrounding area while they continue to conduct area canvases.
Detective McNaughton said a large number of enquiries are currently underway and police are continuing their scene examination on Great North Road.
He encouraged anyone with information related to the incident to contact police.
