More heavy rain is on the way for some parts of the country which were hit by flooding last weekend.
The MetService is forecasting up to 150mm of rain about the ranges in Westland south of Otira, while up to 100mm is expected nearer the coast overnight through until midday tomorrow.
There is also a heavy rain warning out for Nelson northwest of Motueka with up to 140mm expected about the ranges and up to 80mm elsewhere.
The MetService is warning that the rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly and surface flooding and slips are also possible.
Last weekend's flooding left more than 100 homes in Westport unliveable, with another 400 needing repairs or cleaning before they can be reoccupied.
MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane said in a statement that although Buller, Nelson and Marlborough which flooded last weekend will receive more rain "accumulations are not expected to be as large as what was seen with that system".
Marlborough's Emergency Operations Centre said it would be keeping an eye on rain levels in the Rai Valley, Awatere Valley and the Marlborough Sounds from the early hours of Monday morning until early evening.
"Our emergency response teams will continue to monitor already compromised areas and we will continue to liaise with MetService and NIWA for the latest weather information," Marlborough Emergency Management incident controller Dean Heiford said in a statement.
"We are prepared should a response be required," he said.
Marlborough residents are advised to get on the road sooner rather than later if they want to travel along Queen Charlotte Drive tomorrow.
Elsewhere, heavy rain watches are in place for Northland and Auckland from early tomorrow morning, spreading to Coromandel and the Bay of Plenty.
Strong winds could strike Hawke's Bay and Gisborne tomorrow.
