Criticism of care at Nelson rest home

14:00 pm on 5 October 2011

A Nelson rest home has been criticised for substandard care, after some residents had bed sores that were not properly treated.

Nelson-Marlborough District Health Board investigated the Woodlands resthome in Motueka after a spot audit in July found deficiencies in resident care.

The board says some systems and practices fell short of the required level for resthomes and there was inadequate wound care assessment and management.

It says proper procedures and care plans are now in place and the resthome is again being allowed to accept new admissions.
