Police have arrested a man in Te Aroha in relation to the death of a woman in Cambridge in the early hours of Monday morning.
A woman's body was found at a Richmond Road property by emergency services after her death was reported at around 1.20am.
Police, who have launched a homicide investigation, said in a statement they were speaking with the man and an update on charges would be provided when able. They were not seeking anyone else.
"We know this was a distressing incident for our Te Aroha and Cambridge communities and we want to thank them for their understanding while we made enquiries to locate him," the statement said.
"A scene examination at the Richmond Street address is continuing. The community should expect to see an increased police presence while staff continue the investigation into the woman's death."
Police had earlier asked people to avoid picking up hitchhikers in the Te Aroha area.
