Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel have arrived at the requiem mass for Jim Anderton.

The former deputy prime minister died four days ago at the age of 79, after a long illness.

Cabinet ministers Grant Robertson and Megan Woods are also expected to attend today's service.
The requiem mass is being held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
