Dog registration now law in Samoa

07:19 am on 18 June 2014

Dog owners in Samoa are now required to have their dogs registered with police, under new laws that came into effect on Tuesday to try and combat a problem with stray dogs.

The Acting Police Commissioner Fauono Talalelei Tapu told the Samoa Observer that police plan to start registration in the town areas first, before moving out to rural areas.

Fauono says each person aged over 21 is allowed to register three dogs to their name, and each dog will have to wear a numbered collar or else it will be impounded and the owner fined.
