Police believe they have identified the body of a person found in a burnt-out car in forest between Taupo and Tokoroa.
The Fire Service was called to the incident near State Highway 1 at Ohakuri about 9.45am on Wednesday.
The body was removed from the scene after a police examination was completed that night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Perks says the death is not considered suspicious. A post-mortem will be carried out.
