A 67-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting incident in Karapiro this morning.
A man remains in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital's high dependency unit after he was shot at Karapiro Cafe and Gifts shop on Tirau Road where he was working shortly after 9am today.
The arrest follows assistance from a member of the public, police said.
The arrested man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will be appearing at the Hamilton District court tomorrow.
Local farmer Jeff Graham said he was shocked at the incident and given the victim worked at the cafe it was likely he was a local.
"It's not supposed to happen in Cambridge or in Karapiro New Zealand, we're supposed to be a nice quiet, organised society, we don't need this sort of nonsense."
