People are being turned away from a Waikato testing centre, despite being urged by the PM and Director General of Health to get tested. See how the day's news unfolded with RNZ's blog.

Speaking at today's media briefing - where it was announced there were 33 new community cases in the country, the Prime Minister said parts of Waikato will be moving to alert level 3 tonight.

Two community cases were reported in the region this morning, prompting the level three lockdown.

The Covid testing station at Claudelands Park in Hamilton has been seen turning away motorists this afternoon, as it becomes overwhelmed with people wanting to be tested.

An RNZ reporter said when she visited there were about 150 cars in the car park and traffic was backing up onto a nearby road.

Waikato District Health Board says people are being turned away to free up space for those with symptoms or who have visited places of interest.

The DHB says those who are well and have not been in contact with a positive case should instead contact Healthline or their GP.

However, so far no locations of interest for Waikato have been uploaded to the Health Ministry's website today.

The Waikato lockdown will include Raglan, Te Kauwhata, Huntly, Ngaruawahia and Hamilton City from 11:59 tonight.

Auckland's alert level 3 is expected to be reviewed tomorrow.
