Three people have been killed and two injured in a road crash at Leeston in Canterbury.
About 2.20am, a member of the public reported coming across a car that had rolled near the corner of Harts Road and Southbridge Sedgemere Road, police said.
Two males and a female were dead at the scene and two others were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries.
Allan Reese, who lives about 200m away from where it happened, said it was amazing he didn't hear the crash but went and to look at the site when he heard about it.
"Unfortunately there was a hearse there which is pretty sad to see but there's very little to see, it's all cordoned off."
"We've no idea who the people were that were involved, but certainly feel for their families and everything at this time of year, it's tragic."
Mr Reese said there was a compulsory stop at the interesection, and he described it as a clear road in good condition which is used regularly by vehicles servicing the local rural areas.
The road was blocked off as the police worked at the scene, he said.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
The crash brings the holiday road toll to seven.
