Harness racing arrests: Nine appear in court

14:12 pm on 2 October 2018

Nine of the 11 people charged in a case that has rocked the harness racing industry appeared in the Christchurch District Court again this morning.

Some of those who appeared today pleaded not guilty to race-fixing and drugs charges, while others entered no plea.

Most have been granted interim name suppression, pending appeals to the High Court for continued suppression.

Two other defendants were excused from appearing.

One was granted name suppression until a case review hearing next March because of the reputational damage he would suffer if he was named in the media.
