Children's Minister Tracey Martin hopes to see remand homes in every community in New Zealand.

Designed to hold young people who've found themselves in the Youth Justice System, the aim is to make sure they don't end up in prison cells.

Eight have been opened so far, and Lydia Batham and videographer Patrice Allen went to visit one in Auckland that houses up to to five young men aged 12 to 18.
