Last night's Black Caps victory set a new betting record for World Cup Cricket, with turnover hitting $1.5 million.
The TAB said the favourite team switched between New Zealand and South Africa 31 times during the eight-hour match.
The TAB's Mark Stafford told Checkpoint last night's game was their biggest since the Rugby World Cup final.
"We haven't got the exact figures yet because a lot of them were multi-bets involved in the game tomorrow but it'll be in our top six," he said.
"It'll either be our fifth or sixth biggest event of all time, all sports."
Mr Stafford said Sunday's final in Melbourne was shaping up to be another big betting day, with Australia as the favourite to win the competition.
