Auckland City Council is considering reducing the speed limit on one of the city's busiest streets in an attempt to reduce pedestrian injuries.
Two people have been killed on Ponsonby Rd during the past ten years, and of the 27 pedestrians injured on the street during the same period, eight were seriously hurt.
There were more 250 serious car crashes on the street between 2004 and 2008, according to the council's transport committee.
Committee deputy chair John Lister says the proposal is to reduce the speed limit on Ponsonby Rd from 50 kilometres an hour to 40 kilometres an hour.
The proposal is out for public consultation and submissions are due by 13 July.
