Police are hailing two officers who administered first aid to a stab victim, before arresting the alleged perpetrators while investigating a separate incident mere hours later.
An Auckland bus driver is in Middlemore Hospital with serious injuries to his stomach and neck after being stabbed in Manurewa earlier this evening.
Two officers who were first on the scene performed first aid on the man and helped to stem his injuries.
Hours later on an unrelated case they spotted a 20 year-old man and 15 year-old boy and identified and arrested them in relation to the stabbing.
Sergeant Steve Mede from the Counties Manukau District HQ said he was thrilled with the officers.
"Just absolutely awesome work by everybody who was involved ... they've done a great job, worked really hard and come up with the goods.
"[The officers] are back on the street, just absolutely stoked that their actions have culminated in this result."
Mr Mede said all officers received rudimentary first aid training, and in this case it paid off.
"What they've done tonight, it really helped."
The arrested pair are to appear in Manukau Youth Court and District Court tomorrow.
