The police are investigating a serious assault in Hastings early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the incident near a takeaway bar on Heretaunga Street West just after 1am.
A man found with serious injuries was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital, and is in a serious but stable condition.
Police say they are trying to find out the circumstances leading up to the man's injuries, and to identify the person or people responsible.
They want to speak to people who were in the area at the time.
