A man has appeared in court charged with murder following a death of another man at a central Christchurch property.
Emergency services received a report of a serious assault at an Armagh Street property about 7.35pm on Sunday.
A body was found at the address, and a homicide investigation launched.
A 38-year-old man made no application for bail during a brief appearance at Christchurch District Court on Monday morning.
He was been granted interim name suppression to assist with the ongoing police investigation.
His next court appearance will be next month.
A cordon was put in place at the intersection of Armagh Street and Barbadoes Street, and included part of Armagh Street east of that intersection.
Police said earlier they believed the incident was an isolated one with no further risk to the public.
