Seven injured in Melbourne hot air balloon crash

12:23 pm on 8 February 2018

Emergency services are at the scene of a hot air balloon crash northeast of Melbourne.

The accident happened near the Yarra Valley at Dixons Creek.

There are reports the balloon stalled at 500m before coming down hard in an open field, and that people fell out of the basket.

Images from the scene show passengers lying on the ground being treated by emergency crews.

Ambulance Victoria said paramedics assessed 16 people at the scene, and seven were then taken to the Royal Melbourne, Box Hill and Maroondah hospitals.

They suffered a range of injuries, including back, neck and ankle injuries.

The flight was conducted by Go Wild Ballooning, which offers balloon rides around the Yarra Valley, Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the cause of the crash was yet to be determined, and it would be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
