Builder fined for plumbing work

16:53 pm on 29 January 2016

A Christchurch builder has been fined $1500 for carrying out unauthorised plumbing work.

Barry Barnes pleaded guilty in the Christchurch District Court to carrying out restricted plumbing work without authorisation.

The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board chief executive Martin Sawyers said the risks of getting unauthorised tradespeople to carry out plumbing work were high.

He said it could risk the family's health and safety and meant the home's insurance policy wasn't valid.

People can also be fined up to $10,000 for carrying out restricted plumbing and drainlaying work, and up to $50,000 for unauthorised gasfitting work, Mr Sawyer said.
