Capital joins flash-mob anti-rape event

15:56 pm on 12 June 2014

Dancers in Wellington have flash-mobbed the public in support of a global movement to end sexual violence in war.

A relay of events involving 140 countries began in Indonesia on Wednesday night and New Zealand's turn was 1pm on Thursday.

The Wellington performance would be broadcast at a four-day summit in London led by US actress and human rights activist Angelina Jolie and Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Speaking at the summit, Jolie said the subject of war-zone rape has been taboo for too long and international political will is needed to tackle the problem.
