Distribution of polling materials in PNG ahead of schedule

04:50 am on 7 June 2012

The chief secretary to the Papua New Guinea Government, Manasupe Zurenuoc, says the distribution of polling materials for the 2012 National General Elections is well ahead of schedule.

Mr Zurenuoc made this comment during a briefing with the Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen and the Australia and New Zealand Defence Force soldiers in POrt Moresby yesterday.

More than 250 Australia and New Zealand Defence personnel are already in the country to provide logistics support during the polling throughout Papua New Guinea.

They met with Mr Zurenuoc and Mr Trawen and were briefed on the progress on transporting of materials like ballot boxes and stationary to all polling areas in the country.

Mr Zurenuoc says he wants to assure the people of Papua New Guinea and the international community that preparations are further ahead of the time expected.

He says this means the country is now ready to deliver a successful election from June the 23rd.
