A non-profit housing provider in Auckland says the Government needs to put a lot more money into affordable housing in Auckland, Radio New Zealand reports.
The Housing Foundation is building more than 100 affordable homes in Waimahia Inlet, as part of the biggest community housing development in the country.
However spokesperson Lynne Pillay said that was just a drop in the bucket of demand and many more affordable homes needed to be built.
She said even the $400,000 homes at Waimahia are out of reach for many families unless the foundation takes a quarter share or lets them rent to buy.
Pillay is calling for more money for budgeting services so Pasifika and low-income families can be helped to buy their own homes.
