Gallen pleads for more support for NRL players

The Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen has pleaded for more support to the dozens of National Rugby League players preparing for interviews with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Agency.

Thirty players and support staff, including 10 Cronulla players, have been told by the NRL schedule interviews with ASADA as part of its investigation into possible use of banned substances in the sport.

Gallen, whose club is at the centre of the investigation over their 2011 supplement programme, says the long-running saga has deeply affected both himself and his teammates.

He says with people's livelihoods and well-being at stake there needs to be greater support for those involved.

The NRL will have representatives at the ASADA interviews with players to monitor them and see if the required level of cooperation is given.

If it's not players could face sanctions under the league anti-doping policy.
