Driver arrested after crashing into power pole

A driver has been arrested after crashing into a power pole in Christchurch.

Police said officers saw the car driving dangerously at about 2.30pm and followed behind it without initiating a pursuit.

It then crashed into a power pole and residential fence on Greers Road.

Police said they pulled two people out of the wreckage, who were trapped, before it caught on fire.

A person standing nearby received minor injuries after being struck by debris from the crash and was treated by an ambulance on site.

Someone travelling in the car was also taken to hospital.

The Serious Crash unit is at the sceme and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
