Man turns himself in over "piddler on the roof" incidents

19:23 pm on 13 August 2008

A man accused of urinating into parking meter coin slots in Napier will appear in court next week.

Napier police say an 18-year-old man turned himself in last night after widespread publicity about the incidents.

He has been charged with intentional damage and will appear in Napier District Court next Wednesday.

A man, referred to by police as the "piddler on the roof", was caught on surveillance camera footage about six times during the past year.

Napier City Council says that, in the latest incident, the man is seen urinating against the parking meter and manages to urinate into the coin slot of the machine.

Council staff had become frustrated at having to clean and repair machines that were full of urine about a half a dozen times over the past year.
