About 1pm, a group in a car stopped outside a house on Kennedy Road, one of the city's main thoroughfares.

No-one was injured.

Police believed the parties were known to each other and said it was not a random attack.

Officers wanted to hear from people who saw a Green Honda Stream in the area at the time of the incident.

"A number of people have stopped in their cars while the incident unfolded," Detective Sergeant Heath Jones said in a statement.

"We would like to speak to these people and we also ask that anyone who may have filmed the incident to share it with us."

Anyone with information could contact police on 105, quoting the reference number 210710/6825.

Information could also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police would not confirm if this incident was gang related, but this follows similar gang-related incidents around Napier and Wairoa over the past few weeks and months.
