Apple has sold 1 million new iPhones in 21 countries in its first weekend, sending its stock rising more than 2%.
The original iPhone was introduced in late June 2007 in the United States. It sold about 270,000 units in its first two days, while sales topped 1 million by early September.
However, iPhone sales pale compared with those of established mobile phone makers.
Nokia Oyj, which sells almost 10 million phones a week. Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics each ship more than 100 million a year.
