Hawkes Bay Civil Defence staff have been stationed at rivers overnight monitoring flows as the region deals with another severe downpour.
Electronic sensors failed last week, giving emergency responders no way to track the extraordinary river rises which submerged homes.
While this storm isn't expected to see effects similar to Cyclone Gabrielle, up to thirty millimetres of rain per hour could fall this afternoon.
