Holiday road toll rises to six after motorcylist dies in Huntly

A motorcyclist has died after a serious crash on Great South Road in Huntly, Waikato.

The crash was reported to police just after 2pm and involved three vehicles.

The motorcyclist died at the scene.

Diversions were put in place at State Highway 1 and Tainui Bridge, SH1 and the Taupiri roundabout, and Great South Road and Gordonton.

Police said the road was expected to be re-opened shortly after 7pm.

It takes the Christmas-New Year road toll this year to six.

Eleven people died on the roads during the same period last year.
